The faculty has its roots in 1900, when the NYU undergraduate School of Commerce, Accounts and Finance was established to provide professional business education. Since then many students from all over the world have been benefitting from the various degree programs. The first MBA program was invented in 1971. In 1988 the school was renamed after Leonard N. Stern, who is a generous supporter of the school.
